friend has a 2000 bmw 323ci.
his battery was getting weak, ..but car was starting & working fine. he did decide it was time to change battery,..but now the car wont start.
it turns over great , but no start. / could it be in limp mode, or a computer needs to be reset ??
sounds strange , but maybe a security system issue.
any help is welcome, thanks!!!

Sounds strange....   So start by fixing the problem.  Get a new battery, (or even borrow one).  Does the car start with a different battery?

Sounds like the immobilzer.  I have not had to deal with this myself, but search the bimmer and roadfly forums for more information.

Sometimes it is a good idea to put a charger on the car when switchiing batteries to prevent loss of memory in the computers, etc.

Stock BMW batteries can last as long as 9 years, or at least they have for me.  8 years is pretty decent service life.
