SCCA Solo II - August 21st, 2011 - Seneca Army Depot

Hey everyone - I'm co-chairing the event at Seneca this Sunday - we'd love to see some fast BMWs out there - I know there are a bunch of people who do show up.

Also, my car got totalled, my other car is in the shop and the rest of my cars have all season tires on them . . . soooo

if anyone has a hookup on wheels/good tires on 5x100 (Mk IV Jetta), 5x112 (Mk VI GTI) or 5x120 (850i) that I could borrow for the event I would pay handsomely.

Alternatively, if anyone wants to show up and let me co-drive their car I would pay their entry fee.

Community Festival in Rochester,NY

My church will be hosting it's Annual Community Festival this Saturday June 4th from 11 - 5. I was asked if I knew of any car clubs or groups who would like to bring their cars out for display. Basically it's a opportunity to show of the Bimmers while enjoying free food and fun. Kids are welcome.

The event will be held at the church which is located in the city at: 63 Thomas Street Rochester, NY 14603. Anyone can attend. If you are in the neighborhood and /or area, please stop by. :)

Ice Racing - Feb 7 & 8, 2009

Weather is not going to be ‘too cold’ , the event is close by– low cost racing, lots of fun – rental can be available.

Last weekend we had close to 6 hours of seat time, some great races, and ‘no contact’.

It is official. We will be racing this weekend 2/7 and 2/8 on Honeoye Lake. 2 Days for the price of one, or you can show up either day for the price of one.

There is some warm weather coming in this weekend so we really won’t know for sure about Sunday until late Saturday or very early Sunday morning. I will get someone to post a go or no go for Sunday either late Saturday or very early Sunday. But Saturday is definite.

Because of the possibility of warm weather coming in, we are going to alter our race day schedule a little. Here is this altered schedule for this weekend:

7:30 to 8:30 Registration.

8:00 to 8:45 Tech inspection

8:30 to 8:35 Practice sessions

8:45 to 8:46 Driver’s meeting

8:47 The racing begins

Trident Marine is at the northeast corner of Honeoye Lake
off East Lake Rd., perhaps 2 miles south of Rt 20-A.

Notice that we are starting an hour earlier than usual and there will be a very small limited amount of practice. Also there will be NO lunch break.

We want to do this with the hurry up offense, with no huddles, because we want to get the racing in ahead of the puddles. And that is so that we won’t need paddles.

Seriously, our plan is to get Saturday’s racing in as early as possible to avoid as much track degradation as possible. The sooner we can get our races in the better a chance of being able to race on Sunday. We should be able to get in all of our regular races and get off of the ice by about 1:00 if all goes well.

That means that we need workers and as soon as one race group takes the checkered flag, the next group has to be ready to get up there and take the green flag.

If you don’t want to race for economic reasons or because you are worried about the conditions or worried about getting beaten by a rear drive Miata, come on out and man a corner station or help with timing and scoring, or whatever. That way it won’t cost you any money and you are spared the embarrassment of being passed by a Miata.

We need racers to come out and race and we also need workers to come out and work.

PS: Make sure your car has wipers that work and expect some possible slush. Expect the possibility of some standing water developing in the pits so bring something to put your stuff on.

Calabogie Driving School Patroon Chapter--Aug 22-24th 2008

Patroon Chapter BMWCCA is holding a Driving school at Calabogie Motorsports Park west of Ottawa Canada August 22-24th, 2008

Friday will be a day for instructors and approved Advanced Solo/Instructor candidates/ open track type people.
Saturday and Sunday will be a traditional Driving school with some open track type format for qualified drivers.

Entry fees
$399.00 for Saturday and Sunday
$599.00 for Friday, Saturday & Sunday
$249.00 for a one day rate (Approval needed for Friday)

If you have not been to Calabogie, it is a new track only opened in 2006. The Alan Wilson designed track is challenging for both novice and advanced drivers. 20 turns in 3.05 miles including blind apexes and multi apex turns.

Our friend Richard John passes from pancreatic cancer

Richard MacDonald John
1942 ~ 2008 Richard MacDonald John, 66, of Fincastle, ended his battle with Pancreatic Cancer on Monday, May 26, 2008. He retired from a 42 year career as a Professional Mechanical Engineering Consultant in the Roanoke Valley. He was active with ASHRAE, serving as their president from 1980 to 1981. His avocation and true passion for 20 years was that of instructing High Performance Driving for the BMW Car Club of America. He was in the graduating class of 1963 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He was in the cadet corps in S Squad and served on the Air Force Fourth Group Staff. He served in the United States Army Reserves. He was a 1959 graduate of Cave Spring High School in Roanoke, Va. He was born March 26, 1942, in Baltimore, Md., the son of the late Don and Ruth John. He is survived by his beloved wife, JoElla John, of Fincastle; daughter and son-in-law, Beverley John Clarkson and David Clarkson, of Roanoke; daughter, Lisa John Shroyer, of Louisville, Ky.; sister, Joan John Grine, of Del Mar, Calif.; two grandchildren, Tony David and Kaleena Shroyer, of Louisville, Ky.; mother-in-law, Juanita Hall; sister-in-law, Barbara Cameron; brother-in-law, Rick Hall; nephews, Jake and Josh Hall, and Brian Olander; nieces, Leslie Swenson and Stacy Olander; as well as thousands of friends, students and fellow instructors who form his extended family. A memorial service and reception is planned for 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Camp Bethel in Fincastle, Va.

Prayers needed for BMW driver

Jason Workman, my KONI Challenge co-driver was seriously injured Tuesday at Moroso Motorsports Park in Florida. While working for the Chrysler Tour, Jason was testing an Ariel Atom with the owner of the car in the passenger seat, when severe thunderstorms rolled throught the West Palm area. The cars were pulled off track and under a canopy in pit lane, when the wind destroyed the structure. Jason was struck by something that was picked up and seriously injured. The passenger was fine with minor bruises. Currently he is in a medically induced coma due to numerous upper body fractures including both shoulder blades, right humourous, both collar bones, numerous ribs, as well as bruised lungs and swelling to the brain. The force of the object that stuck him was enough to crack his helmet. He is being treated at St. Marys Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida. Jason also has his own website where updates can also be found at www.jasonworkman.com. Again, Jason is my co-driver for V-Pack Motorsports, KONI Challenge 2008, as well as a very close friend. Hey guys and gals! As long as the ice has melted, NJBMWCCA is happy to say we will be at LRP again this year for a normal, full-day event on 4 April (Friday). You know it's getting harder to get a full day at this great track and we're excited to start our season this way. We have a long history at LRP - 34 yrs (!) - when we held the first BMWCCA driver school (ever) at LRP. We've been back every year since and hope to continue the tradition. Please come join us!
