| I have had good experiences with Scott Parks at CDI in Victor. I have gone to Scott for over 20 years and have had only one minor issue. He won't recommend work that in his experience isn't required.

It's been a while since I've owned a Bimmer and I'm glad there's a thread about mechanics. I have not forgotten that I'm hedging a super-fun to bomb around town in for some really quirky mechanical probs. I have two questions:
1. Does Ekstens have the equipment to reset those [annoying] service lights?
2. Does anyone know their labor rates? I can assume they're better than the authorized dealerships.
Glad to be driving a BMW again,
- The new guy

Universal Imports REALLY knows their stuff, and they're fast.
Of course, they're also expensive - you get what you pay for.

I can vouch for Fountain, I drove KONI with them in 07, and have a great personal relationship with the new owner of the business. Jeff is a first class, knowlegable guy that can help you with your BMW.

| I can vouch for CDI in Victor, too. I've never been surprised, disappointed, or frightened! Great quality work by mechanics that not only know cars but seem to care about the quality of their work. They know bone-stock cars and understand tuner mentality as well. Most of the cars they work on are Audi, BMW, Merc and Porsche. I've seen Alfa's ('cause I LOOK for Alfa's), Triumph, Subaru, etc.. Great alignments with knowledge of lowered cars, able to mount 18" wheels without touching the wheel, accept drop-shipped tires, get parts overnighted when necessary, and there is a nearby Enterprise.

| Anyone know a good mechanic in Syracuse, Auburn, or Ithaca? I do most of my own work, but my neighbor, he needs help. Burdick BMW is beding him over the parts counter, big time. Suggestions?

Sorry to bring this thread back to life. Anyway, I bought my 1999 M3 in October '08 with only 39K miles on it. My thermostat was sticking open so I took it over to CDI. I had them do the themostat, waterpump, hoses, etc. The rates were reasonable and the work was good. Most of the cars in their parking lot looked very stock. I've heard great things about Eksten's and was at their shop for a custum tune/dyno day in 2008 when I had a MINI Cooper S. They seemed very knowledgable about tuned cars and, based on the cars and equipment in the shop, seem to cater more to the tuner crowd. I called them first for the work on my M3, but the prices they quoted were quite a bit higher than CDI.

| I really want to like Ekstens but I've had them actually quote HIGHER than Holtz and schedule farther off - "bring it in 3 weeks from Thursday". Kind of inflexible. Not overly accomodating. More dealerish than shopish - if you know what I mean. I need a small shop run by enthusiasts working for realistic amounts of money and can always find a way to accomodate a nnedy 'friend' with a new coilover set needing installation quick. When I lived in Atlanta, Harrison Motorsports was that shop. The head tech - Vince knew more about BMW's than anyone I'd ever met. All the poor working stiff E30 M3 owners that tracked regularly at Road Atlanta always had their cars there for one reason or another. No matter what you needed or wanted to have put on - David, the owner, had a way to get his hands on it. Late getting out of work to pick up your car - someone would hand out and be there. A real affordable, competent, pleasurable place to have the Bimmer cared for. Where is this place in Rochester???
